The First Crisis Center for the Victims of Domestic Violence has been opened in Tbilis

State Fund for the Protection and Assistance of the (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking (hereinafter “State Fund”) hosted an opening ceremony of the first state-run crisis center for the victims of domestic violence in Georgia based in the capital, Tbilisi. The event was supported by UN Women in the framework of the UN Joint Programme to Enhance Gender Equality funded by the government of Sweden.

Quality of roads, public kindergartens, cleaning service and citizen engagement in decision-making are in focus of a research commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Swiss Cooperation Office (SCO) for the South Caucasus and Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and carried out by the Georgian research company ACT in November 2015. 

The discussion about key findings of the study on 27 July 2016 brought together representatives of the Georgian Government, Parliament, local authorities, civil society and international organizations.

Three civil society organizations – Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics, Internews – Georgia and Civic Development Institute (CDI), released the first media monitoring report ahead of the 8 October Parliamentary elections in Georgia.

A press conference on July 22, 2016, brought together representatives of the Georgian media, non-governmental and international organizations, and diplomatic missions.

The Presentation of the Legal Estimation of the “Practical Analysis and Preventive Recommendations on Past Torture and Inhuman Treatment”

The UN Human Rights Office adopted the conclusion and the recommendation regarding the 4th intermittent report of Georgia of August 19, 2014, namely: “The State shall investigate the past inhuman treatment facts taking place prior to 2012 Elections to prevent political revenge. The state shall undertake all necessary measures within authority to provide the victims of the offenses with effective protection in line with the paragraph 3, Article 2 of the Convention”.

The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, based on the hereof recommendations, set up the working group to develop the legal estimation of past torture and inhuman treatment facts (2004-2012). The legal document was been publicly represented in Hualing Hotel, attended by the Prime Minister, the Speaker, the Chair of the Supreme Court, legislative and executive authorities, Public Defender and the diplomatic corps.
